How Long Until I See Laser Hair Removal Results?

If you have made the decision to have laser hair removal, chances are you would like to see the results of treatment as soon as possible. It’s therefore important to ask your provider what you can reasonably expect with laser hair removal treatment, and how soon you are likely to see results.

What happens during laser hair removal?

The beam of light from the laser targets the melanin that is located at the base of the hair follicle. The heat that is generated damages the hair follicle and this will prevent future hair growth. The treated hair will eventually fall out within the following 1-2 weeks.

How Long Until I See Laser Hair Removal Results?

Some patients notice results within 2 weeks of their first laser hair removal treatment, but more results will be noticeable after each treatment. Depending on the area being treated, patients may need anywhere from 6-8 treatments to achieve the best results.

What affects the timing of laser hair removal results?

The results of laser hair removal are not immediate because hair grows in phases – anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). The cycle is repeated continuously and lasers can only affect hair when it is in the anagen phase. As a result, only a portion of the hair in the targeted area will be removed during treatment. That’s the reason why multiple treatments are required, and the results take time.

The area of the body being treated also impacts the timing of results, as results can be seen sooner in areas such as the underarm and bikini area.
