New technology used to treat acne

If you have acne, then you don’t have to live with it forever, because you can get it under control with the right treatment. Conventional treatments such as topical creams and lotions have been around for a long time, but now there arenewer solutions available using laser technology and light therapy. These   are usually recommended for people that have not achieved success with traditional treatment methods.

Acne and its causes
Acne is the name given to those annoying pimples that tend to show up on the face, but they can also be found on other parts of the body, such as the chest and shoulders. The condition is due to the production of excess oil by the glands around the hair follicles. The excess oil eventually clogs the hair follicles, causing them to become inflamed and irritated. This leads to the formation of lesions such as pimples and whiteheads.

Acne Treatment
There are different options available for the treatment of acne. Conventional treatments includeoral and topical medications. However, newer methods include:

  • Lasers: Lasers are now play a huge role in the treatment of acne. However, it generally takes a series of treatments to clear the skin with laser therapy. Diode lasers treat acne (click here) by destroying the sebaceous glands, without damaging the outer layer of the skin.

  • Blu-light therapy: This is a non-invasive, pain free treatment that is used to reduce the symptoms of acne. Blu-light is an advanced photofacial therapy that utilizes blue light to treat acne. Prior to the application of the high-intensity blue violet light, a Levulan Kerastick solution is applied to the skin. This combination kills the p. acnes bacteria that cause acne.  Blu-light works much faster than traditional methods, and is safe enough for use on types of skin.

Physicians often choose a combination of alternatives to treat acne.
