What Is A Liquid Facelift?

If you are looking for a non-surgical way to fight signs of aging, you might want to consider a liquid facelift. Facial skin sags over time due to loss of volume in the fat pads and a decline in skin elasticity.  Wrinkles and fine lines also develop causing you to look older.  Fortunately, if you’re not quite ready for a facelift, a liquid facelift can help.  But what is a liquid facelift?

What Is A Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure in which neuromodulators such as Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin are used alongside dermal fillers to address signs of aging and rejuvenate the face.

A liquid facelift is a safe, versatile procedure that can smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump the cheeks and lips, and define the chin and jawline.

Neuromodulators and dermal fillers can effectively sculpt and lift the face.  They provide optimal facial rejuvenation because they target different areas.  While they both fall into the category of injectable treatments, there are noticeable differences between them.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators like Botox and Xeomin treat dynamic wrinkles, which  form over time due to repeated muscle movement related to expressions such as smiling and squinting.  Dynamic wrinkles include crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.

The active ingredient in Botox is botulinum toxin type A.  When Botox is injected beneath the skin, it blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles and decreases muscle contraction.  This makes the muscles relax and causes the overlying wrinkles to become smooth.   Botox also gives the brow a subtle lift.

Dermal Fillers

There are different types of dermal fillers available, which are used to reduce wrinkles and add volume to facial tissue.  Dermal fillers treat static facial lines such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, which are lines around the nose and mouth.  They also restore volume in areas like the midface and lips, and plump lines and creases.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero Balance, are the dermal fillers commonly used to perform a liquid facelift.  HA occurs naturally in the body and keeps the skin plump and hydrated.  Other fillers used in a liquid facelift include Radiesse and Sculptra.

What’s Involved In A Liquid Facelift?

During a liquid facelift, cosmetic injectables are strategically placed in different parts of the face to provide a subtle lift, restore youthful contours, and sculpt specific areas.

The type and volume of filler used during a liquid facelift will vary depending on the areas targeted for treatment.

While there may be some mild tenderness, swelling, and bruising in the treatment areas after a liquid facelift, there is no downtime.

What Results Can You Expect?

A liquid facelift will soften the appearance of lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases. It will also give the facial features a gentle lift.

How Long Does A Liquid Facelift Last?

How long a liquid facelift lasts will depend on the type of injectables used, where they were placed, and the amount injected.  Botox and other neuromodulators typically last 3-4 months, while hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane last 6-12 months.  Touch-ups can be done to maintain results.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Liquid Facelift?

A liquid facelift is ideal for men and women interested in a non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment.   Individuals experiencing volume loss in the midface, superficial wrinkles, and slight jowls are good candidates for the procedure.  Candidates should also have good skin elasticity because a liquid facelift does not tighten the skin.

If you would like to address signs of aging without going under the knife, a liquid facelift may be the right option for you.
