What To Look For In A Dermatologist

If you want to improve the look of your skin, or you have a recurring skin condition such as acne or eczema, you should consider consulting with a dermatologist.  However, if this is your first visit, you may be unsure about what to look for in a dermatologist. We offer some tips below.

If you need a dermatologist look for one who is:

1.    Board Certified: A dermatologist that is certified by the American Board of Dermatology has undergone specialized skin disease training, and completed a rigorous exam by the American Board of Dermatology. A board certified dermatologist will not only be able to treat your specific skin concerns, but can also help to manage complications you may have relating to your hair and nails.
2.    An expert in the area you need help: You want to ensure that the dermatologist regularly performs the procedure you would like done. A visit to their website should reveal their areas of emphasis. However, if you go in for a consultation, make certain that they take a ‘hands-on’ approach, and don’t merely supervise a nurse or technician who does the procedure.
3.    Knowledgeable about Skin Treatments: They should be able to thoughtfully answer your skin care questions, and if they don’t know the answer, they should be resourceful enough to find it.
